Pickup truck haulers are the more sturdy, practical alternative to sport utility vehicles, and many people are now making the switch. They are certainly a growing market, but a number of obstacles stand in the way of sales. Rising gas prices and environmental pressure influence many people's decisions of whether or not to buy, as well as the current dominance of sport utility vehicles on the market. Can they oust the competition and find their place in an over-crowded marketplace, or will they fall by the wayside as practicality gives way to political correctness?
Uses
Pickup truck haulers have a variety of uses, and in fact the phrase can mean a number of things. The hauler can be separate, like a trailer, or even an add-on at the back to hold motorbikes. Mostly, though, pickup truck haulers are elongated pickups, designed to carry much larger items and cope with a heavier workload. Apart from motorbikes, jet skis, powered parachutes, canoes, snowmobiles, rafts, and balloons can be transported to their destinations, and they are frequently used as mobile skips and organic waste disposal units. They are getting larger and more versatile by the year, and are so reaching broader markets and appealing to a wider range of users.
History
The humble pickup truck has been around since 1925, when Henry Ford introduced the "Ford Model T Runabout with Pickup Body". Selling at $281, they quickly established a new market in motor vehicles, which was seized upon by the general public. Farmers found them particularly useful, but during the Great Depression banks would not lend money for luxuries such as cars, but they would for utilitarian vehicles such as pickups. This changed when a farmer sent a letter to Henry Ford asking, "Why don't you build people like me a vehicle in which I can take my family to church on Sunday, and my pigs to town on Monday?"; and so the utility vehicle was born, and it has gone from strength to strength since. Nowadays they can be used to move far more than pigs or people, but with their increased size has come an increased consumption of fuel, with damaging consequences.
Fuel Consumption
The larger the vehicle, the more fuel it consumes, and the greater the effect on the environment. sport utility vehicles have received widespread criticism over the last few years from environmental pressure groups, and rising gas prices have shaken the market considerably. Polls in the summer of 2006 suggested that most people wanted to move away from utility vehicles and into the smaller car or hybrid sector. Nonetheless, the opposite appears to be happening, with sales of utility vehicles rising while car sales fall. Pickup truck haulers are definitely at the higher-consumption end of the market, but they fill a niche that cannot be otherwise filled by cars or smaller vehicles. If you need to move large items, then you need a large vehicle. Period.
The Future
Pickup truck haulers have a large role in the utilitarian market today, and will no doubt continue to do so in the future. The main criticism of sport utility vehicles is that they are are very often used by those who don't actually need them, such as couples or small families. So the question to ask yourself is: do I really need a pickup truck hauler? I cover this topic and the different varieties of haulers in my webpage, so I won't go into it here, but at the end of the day only you can answer that question, based on your career and lifestyle. One thing is for certain, though: pickup truck haulers are here to stay, and the time is right for them to overtake the competition and move into the fast lane.

How To Convert Your Truck Into A Hybrid For Under $200
Did you know that you can convert your car or truck to a water-burning hybrid? Did you also know that you can convert your car or truck all by yourself for under $200.00 without sacrificing performance? I have done it, and so can you.
I am averaging 75% more miles that I can drive on a full tank of gas in a 2004 Ford F250 Pickup. The way my truck runs now is amazing. I am getting that much better gas mileage, plus a better running vehicle to boot. Your first thought may be that this is nonsense. Go ahead and admit it. I know because it was the same thing that I said. The only reason that I bought in was to review this product. I was sure that I was going to be able to give it a nasty review, but I can't.
I can't give this product a bad review because it does work. After I received the schematics and started looking at them, I realized that this was the real deal. The plans were so detailed, and well thought out. The plus with me was that the parts I used to build this kit were cheap, and it was very simple to put together. Installing it was even easier. I could take the kit out of my truck, and allow it to run back to stock settings in less than 10 minutes.
When I was a little kid, my Father told me how impossible it was to get energy out of nothing. He was right for the most part. I tried to always think of a way to create energy out of nothing, but never came up with a dependable source. The fact that I never solved the problem should be quite obvious because it's highly likely that I would be the most famous man in the world. I'm not famous.
You may not be able to get energy out of nothing, but you can certainly use the fuel to create the energy more efficiently. This kit allows you to do that. If you are concerned about the rising cost of fuels, and the future of our environment you will want to check this out.

Fuel and Propulsion Innovations in the Trucking Industry
Many people believe that the Trucking Industry is one of those old stodgy sectors of our economy where there are few if any new innovations. Well, let me blast that myth right off the highway here and now. Why you ask? Well we are witnessing a whole new era in Aerodynamic Designs in the Trucking Industry right now.
In fact, we are seeing similar designs with Motor Coach Truck Combos and Mobile Command Centers. This is propelling efficiencies in the transportation sector and is being caused by higher fuel costs. The industry wants to remain efficient and is using Lighter Materials and even looking at innovations in the Future of Truck Tires.
Of course that is not all, we see changes in all the sub-sectors too, such as in changes in the Future of Truck Washes, maintenance procedures and high-tech engines too.
Fuel and Propulsion Innovations in the Trucking Industry
There are many companies working on research and development for future motors for trucks. Caterpillar Engine Technologies and other major manufacturers are hard at work designing Future Motors and it is not just the motors themselves that they are looking at. Some are considering Electrical System Re-Designs from top to bottom.
Part of the reason for these innovative changes are environmental in nature and mandated by the DOT and EPA thus manufacturers are looking at anyway to increase performance and fuel efficiency, while Preventing Pollution. There are a number of ways to do this such as through Oil and Lubrication.
Many forward looking companies like Eaton along with major customers of trucks such as UPS and FedEx are considering Fuel Cell Trucks for the future. There are also huge new project going on with motor designs to take advantage of Bio Diesel and Bio Fuels. Still many truck manufactures are now adding On-Board Generators to prevent all-night idling at the truck stops to help save on fuel, reduce pollution and comply with regulations.
The Future Theories on Propulsion are about as imaginative as those writing the sequels to the Star Wars trilogies. So if someone out there thinks that the Trucking Industry is lagging in innovation or that it is a stodgy old industry, best think again.

The State Of Trucking Industry
If we study the current state of the Trucking Industry and the statistical facts we see a much different picture painted than the perceptions purported by the general public. The Trucking and the Economy are very much inter-related as are all the Flows of Transportation in America and those which are beyond our borders. Interstate Commerce cannot exist without the trucking industry.
Unfortunately, things are not so easy for many operators and we are continually seeing the death of the Independent Truck Driver as major Trucking Companies enjoy their economies of scale, even with the huge crisis presently with Truck Driver Labor Shortages.
Government Intervention
No other industry relies on our Nations Highway System as much as the Trucking Industry. Congress has based a gigantic Transportation Bill and Billions are planned in improvements, some of which is geared to help Trucking and Safety. Of course the information we get from Government Reports such as those from the DOT and GAO do not always point out the true reality.
There are however many wonderful things being done from within the industry such as the American Trucking Association's Mobile Watch Program, which incidentally was a huge factor in catching the DC Shooters. So, the Trucking Industry is taking a leading role in the safety of our nation. Indeed there are now many Electronic Highway Interactive Safety Devices, which assist authorities and trucking companies maintain a cohesive flow and protect the welfare and safety of all vehicles.
Potential Truck Safety Issues
There have been many new technologies for Iced Conditions to prevent accidents due to black ice. This protects 4-wheelers and truck drivers alike. There are also new Road Coatings, which may be the answer in curbing Global Warming by eliminating Urban Heat.
There have been many studies with truck driver falling asleep at the wheel, thus more Truck Parking has been added in many states and more have been mandated by the Department of Transportation. Likewise there have been more reviews on the Hours of Service Debates and proposed legislation to limit the amount of time truck drivers are aloud to drive without resting.
Truck Load Statistics Wobbling
One significant statistic is the load factors in trucking and these economic indicators help us judge the future markets. There is quite a bit of Rail VS. Trucking and piggy back trailer strategies for moving freight across the nation. These factors must also be considered. It is the entire supply chain that must be judged to determine the flow of goods to market.
Trucking Companies and Transportation Service Firms have many Logistic Strategies to Handle Freight Traffic. The Flow of Transportation is a critical factor in the wealth and health of a nation. Because if you bought it, a truck brought it.

Truck Wheels Or Jeep Wheels?
Contrary to what you might believe, while they may be the most stylized of all truck and Jeep parts, wheels aren't all about adding glitz and shine. In fact, choosing wheels deserves lengthy consideration, as the right set of wheels can provide additional performance benefits that make buying them not just a stylistic decision, but a smart one as well. Particularly with regard to off-road oriented Jeeps, choosing the optimum set of Jeep wheels can be as important an item to consider as many other Jeep parts.
Factors to be Wary of When Choosing Truck Wheels and Jeep Wheels:
When choosing a set of truck or Jeep wheels, the first recognition that one needs to make is just how vital they are to a vehicle. The type of wheels chosen can have a direct, significant impact upon ride quality, handling, and safety, and oftentimes prove to be just as crucial as many other essential truck and Jeep parts. Moreover, picking the right wheels and taking proper care of them are crucial factors in maintaining optimum performance, and of course, keeping up that slick look. It is important to remember that wheels are providing stability for an entire vehicle. They are directly connected to the axle, brakes, and suspension system. Should a single wheel falter, this could be disastrous for other components in your vehicle.
Corrosion:
Ideally, when it comes to having polished, shiny Jeep and truck wheels, it is very important to keep them that way as much as possible. Wheel corrosion should be taken seriously, not only because of the effects on appearance, but for harmful and potentially unsafe consequences as well.
There are numerous types of corrosion that can damage or otherwise deteriorate Jeep and truck wheels. Rust can eat away at some wheel metals, causing disfiguration and stability breakage. Corroding brakes can also leak onto the wheel itself, leading to further corrosion. Additionally, brake dust that accumulates on wheels can permanently stain or tarnish certain wheel metals when combined with heat buildup during everyday driving. Finally, for the off-road enthusiasts, rocks, dirt, and sand can scratch sparkling chromes, and sometimes even become entrenched in wheels made of more porous metals, leading to further corrosion.
Granted, significant corrosion that results in considerable wheel damage is a rarity; however, this is not to suggest that regular upkeep and cleaning of your wheels can be outright neglected.
Bending/Breakage:
Bending and breakage are irregular occurrences provided that you exercise caution when driving, but this is not to suggest that they are factors to be taken lightly. Especially for off-road enthusiasts who tackle some of the toughest terrains using low air pressure crawling, wheel bending or breakage can ruin any off-road outing, as driving on one frayed truck wheel or dented Jeep wheel can damage an entire suspension system. Rough driving on bumpy roads or extended driving over potholes or speed bumps can also lead to wheel damage, particularly if air pressure is low, or if the suspension system is not sufficient.
Sizing:
Essentially, the job of the wheels on your vehicle are to work with the suspension system to keep as much of the tires in contact with the road, particularly during turns and braking. A set of quality truck wheels can mean the difference between a tire catching the road on a rainy day, or spinning out of control on a patch of pebbles on the highway. In order to ensure optimum tire contact, it is important to take truck wheel sizing into major consideration.
There are three aspects to wheel sizing that work together with the suspension design: wheel offset, aspect ratio, and tire width. Offset refers to the distance from the very center of the wheel to the mounting surface of the wheel disc at the hub. Wheel offset can be positive, negative or zero. A "0" offset means that the mounting surface of the wheel is in the center of the wheel. This measurement is very important in positioning the tire. This also allows for adequate dual spacing.
Aspect ratio is the ratio between the width of the tire and the height of its side wall. A tire specified as "205/60/15," for example, has a width of 205mm and 60% aspect ratio. The "15" refers to the size of the tire to which the wheel is fitted. Typically, tires with lower aspect ratio than what is required will wear them out easily, and ride quality will deteriorate; although, this could also result to more precision in turning. Some people consider using wider wheels to give a vehicle a racer look, but while is it true that wider wheels and tires can give a vehicle a sportier appearance, they can also ruin your driving satisfaction. This is because the weight of the vehicle would not be evenly spread over the wheel and tire width. Resistance is also increased, thus you wheels and tires could wear out fast, and gas mileage could be significantly reduced.
Wider wheels are sometimes required to adequately support larger and wider tires. This provides increased traction in a variety of different terrains such as sand and mud. Vehicles with larger wheels and tires also make less of an impact in the terrain opposed to a vehicle with narrow wheels that cuts into the terrain creating ruts and erosion.
Types of Custom Truck Wheels and Jeep Wheels:
Custom truck wheels are available in three compositions and a seemingly endless number of styles. Each composition has its advantages and disadvantages, and it's a good idea to take each into consideration to help determine which type of wheel is right for you.
Steel Truck Wheels and Jeep Wheels:
Steel wheels employ solid construction and heavy-duty materials to reap certain benefits. The stamped construction of steel truck wheels provides a more consistent composition that you can't get out of cast and machined alloys. The end result is that steel wheels are typically more uniform, and therefore, less prone to warping or wobbling. There are not as many styles of steel wheels to choose from, but they are typically less expensive in comparison to cast wheels. This makes steel wheels an excellent option for off-road enthusiasts who are looking for a set of truck or Jeep wheels that are durable enough to handle off-road terrain, yet inexpensive enough to easily replace in the event of wheel damage. On the downside, steel wheels are heavier than alloys, which may slightly reduce performance and decrease gas mileage.
In Brief - Advantages of Steel Wheels:
# Heavy Duty Durability
While slightly heavier than alloy wheels, steel wheels are also more durable. Additionally, steel is more malleable than aluminum, preventing chipping or breakage due to impact.
# Consistent Composition
The stamped construction of steel wheels helps them to be more uniform and symmetrical, increasing structural integrity and reducing the likelihood of wobbling.
# Longevity
Steel wheels are less porous than aluminum wheels, allowing better resistance against dirt, sand, and brake depletion.
# Value
Steel wheels are a great, inexpensive option that can take a beating when going off-road.
Forged Alloy Truck Wheels and Jeep Wheels:
Aluminum forging utilizes heat and extreme pressure to create dense and strong wheels that are durable, yet still remain lightweight. Although forged aluminum wheels are slightly more expensive than other wheels, this is because no expense is spared with regard to tooling, development, equipment, and manufacturing, and the results show in the quality of these truck wheels. Aluminum alloys make the perfect culmination of lightweight composition, creative spoke design, and protection against the elements for a lasting shine. For maximum durability and reliability in an alloy wheel, forged aluminum wheels have no equal.
In Brief - Advantages of Forged Alloy Wheels:
# Extreme Heat Forgery
Forged alloy wheels are subjected to extreme heat during the construction process, allowing the aluminum compounds to meld, creating dense and durable wheels.
# Lightweight
Advanced aluminum alloy compounds are lighter than steel wheels.
# Excellent Value
In general, forged alloy wheels tend to be slightly more expensive than their cast aluminum counterparts; however, in terms of durability, weight, performance, design, and overall quality, forged alloy wheels are the best overall value, giving you the most bang for your buck.
Cast Alloy Wheels:
Cast-molded alloy wheels are a reliable option that provides many performance benefits for on and off road drivers. Using aluminum compounds combined with low-pressure casting, the end result is Jeep wheels and truck wheels that are lightweight and durable. The porous metal compound of cast alloy wheels helps to dissipate heat during excessive brake application, and also provides a rust-resistant, easy-to-clean shine. The malleable nature of cast alloy Jeep and truck wheels also allows more creative freedom to craft some of the most vicious designs available. On the downside, cast alloy aluminum tends to be more porous, which may lead to various forms of corrosion, but this can typically be avoided with regular cleaning and care.
In Brief - Advantages of Cast Alloy Wheels:
# Low-Pressure Casting
Cast alloy wheels employ low-pressure casting techniques for increased malleability. This allows alloys to be more flexible, therefore granting manufacturers a certain level of metallurgic creativity.
# Porous Metal Compound
The aluminum alloy of cast wheels is more porous, which allows better airflow through the wheels to help cool down heated brakes.
# Rust-Resistant Shine
Cast aluminum alloy wheels are rust-resistant, easy to clean, and produce a consistent, long-lasting shine.
Don't Forget the Lug Nuts:
They may be small, but lug nuts are crucial truck and Jeep parts that many people overlook when upgrading to custom wheels. The impact of lug nuts on wheel safety, security and durability just may surprise you. Here are some reasons why when upgrading to custom wheels, new lug nuts are near-essential truck and Jeep parts that ensure the utmost performance:
Style:
Lug nuts are the essential cherry-on-top that style enthusiasts are quick to overlook. Attention to detail is important when it comes to the appearance of your vehicle, and nothing complements a new set of wheels and tires like custom lug nuts. OEM lug nuts are bland, and can appear glaringly dull in contrast to the polished shine of new wheels. Particularly on aging stock wheels, the lug nuts may be significantly worn or warped, or the grooves may be stripped. Chrome and alloy lug nuts are quite commonplace and many styles are available to go with any wheels and tires.
General Maintenance:
Whether you're the weekend off-road enthusiast who alternates tires frequently, or even the everyday driver who's prompt with tire rotations, lug nuts can corrode and wear out over time. Loose, frayed lugs can result in instability, or rusted lugs might be irremovable in case of a flat. Lug nuts are in close association with the brakes and wheels, and corroding lug nuts may aversely affect your brake system, or damage chrome wheels.
Security:
Unfortunately, theft of your wheels and tires is as easy for thieves as changing a few spares. For this reason, lockable lug nuts can provide just enough added security to prevent you from becoming a victim. Heavy duty locking mechanisms make lug nuts difficult to remove, which can be the difference between a thief disregarding your vehicle and instead going after a far less painstaking vehicle without wheel locks. Spline drive lug nuts are also beneficial for added security, as they require a special tool to remove them (typically included in a set of spline drive lug nuts).
Lughole Sizing:
Lughole sizing can be a tricky endeavor if you're not sure how to do it properly. All tire and wheel shops have a special tool that they can place over the rim holes that tell them the pattern. Since this tool costs over $20 and you won't use it very often, you can check you own hole pattern if you have a simple tape measure.
Most lug holes are 1/2", 9/16" or 5/8". Most trucks and SUVs of 1/2 ton size or less will come with the half-inch size. If you're upgrading to a slightly larger tire size, chances are that the stock lug studs will handle the job nicely. However, if you're going to some really big tires, you might have to upgrade the stud size to handle the increased loads. Check with the after market wheel and tire manufacturer for their recommendations.
When measuring, be sure that your tape is located dead center on the hole (or on one edge with the five-hole pattern) for accuracy. It's very hard to tell small differences, but 1/4 inch can make a big difference. For example, the largest rim size you can get with a 5-on-4 and 1/4" wheel pattern is a 14 inch rim. But there are numerous 15 inch rims available in 5-on-4 and 1/2" patterns, so you can see how critical an accurate measurement is.
If the rim is still on the vehicle, it's often hard to get that accurate measurement. One simple trick is to take a sheet of paper and press it down firmly on the studs you need to measure then measure the marks on the paper.
Another trick is to take some stiff wire - a coat hanger will do fine - and bend the wire into a wide "U" shape, using the ends of them to act like calipers.
The very best method is to actually take the wheels off the vehicle, lay them flat on the ground, and measure the holes carefully, while looking straight down.
In Summary:
While the stylistic aspect of purchasing new Jeep or truck wheels is often the primary consideration, it's important to not overlook factors pertaining to performance. One should be wary of paying proper attention to upkeep and selection before choosing a set of wheels, as the wrong decision can significantly affect your vehicle as well as your safety. Knowing the differences between steel, forged, and cast wheels, as well as correct procedures for sizing, maintenance, and mounting are all crucial factors in getting the most out of your truck and Jeep wheels.

Searching For Trucks Online
Searching for a Semi Truck or a Heavy Truck can be difficult. For many years truckers have been obligated to search dealer by dealer hoping that their dream tractor-trailer would be in one of the dealers they would walk into. However, since the rise of the Internet truckers and companies have been increasingly aware of the efficiency of searching for trucks online. At American Truck Buyer our goal is to do just that. We want to make Searching for a truck fun and easy. Avoiding the sales pitch drivers can now use filters to find the perfect truck throughout the country in just a couple of minutes.
With so many Companies taking advantage of building their own truck search engines/databases one might ask how it is that we differentiate ourselves from the competition. Well in one example our business is Truckers not Trucks. Let me explain. While many companies out there are focusing on only making profits as a result of advertising trucks on the Internet, we are going the extra mile to not only focus on what produces revenues but on what a trucker really needs, which is certainly more than just having a truck. We have successfully built a web site where people can find great trucks, and also find insurance quotes, financing, dot inspection, transportation etc.... We also built other divisions that serve not only the people looking for a truck, but for existing drivers who are in love with their truck but need parts or services to tune up their baby. A full service web site for truckers is our vision. We want truckers to enter our site knowing that they won't have to go anywhere else to find the equipment or service they need to get them back on the road.
Our parts and service page is effective in finding specific parts that a driver needs to repair or tune-up their truck. Saving the time of having to drive around town in search for a part nobody may carry. Our free service shoots out hundreds of emails to companies offering that part throughout a designated area. Within a couple of hours the driver can expect to receive several calls with shops offering their part along with a competitive price. This is the way we are innovating the trucking industry and making a full service web site for the truck driver. When people think of trucking we want them to think American Truck Buyer!

Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Training
What is a CDL?
CDL stands for "Commercial Drivers License." In order to drive a large truck (like an 18-wheeler) you must have a CDL. Many people mistakenly think that they must go out and finance their CDL training themselves (which can cost several thousand dollars), but many companies looking for new truck drivers are willing to finance your education provided you sign a commitment to stay with the company after being certified.
Why do you want a CDL?
Are you stuck in a dead-end job? The trucking industry is facing a shortage because of increased competition in other jobs pushing truckers' wages up. Many experienced truckers make up to $80,000 per year! In addition to the great pay truckers have the opportunity to see different parts of the country and meet new people.
What is the first step?
The first step is looking around to find a company who will help you get CDL training - Driver's Agent Network is a network that specializes in such intelligent matching. They will look at your current needs and find the best match for you to maximize your wage while reducing any out of pocket expenses for you.
What should you consider first?
Trucking can be a difficult industry for some people. Before becoming a trucker you should consider whether you can handle being away from home for weeks at a time and if life on the road is right for you. If you don't feel comfortable with these requirements you can always consider getting your CDL and running local routes (also known as regional routes) which allow you to go home every night.
After finding a great opportunity you will just need to start your training and hit the road - you will be surprised at how quickly you can be a part of the trucking community and making great money!

Fewer Splattered Bugs On The Windshield
Many truck drivers as noticing fewer bugs these days on their windshields. What Happened to All the Bugs? This is indeed a typical topic of conversation at the truck stops and over night rest areas, as normally the bugs would be plastered on the windshield. Many bug species might be having problems you see?
We have all heard about the plight of the American Honey Bees and the virus that invades their larva. Now the problem has reached critical for them. Unfortunately, that very much affects the crop production in the United States and it could be as much as 40%.
If we lose forty percent on the crop yields we will not have the excess that we give to other nations in food aid. And we may have a significant problem with meeting out Ethanol 8% of total fuel supply goals as well. Can you see why this is such a huge problem for us in the United States.
Of course the African Killer Bees are starting to mellow out a little bit now that they have mixed with North American Honey Bees, but I still do not advise you to wear yellow, it attracts them. Indeed, the big issue for truck drivers is trying to figure out why there are fewer dead bugs on the windshields.
Some truck drivers use to refer to their rigs as bug smashers. Yet we see the windows are sometimes perfectly clean now after a 250 mile leg of a trip. What might seem like a blessing, might be far more serious than we could ever imagine, so think on this.

Deep Reach Telescopic Forklift Trucks
Deep reach telescopic forklift trucks are helping distribution centers to achieve much more economical and high-density use of warehouse space. Recent years have seen a rapid increase in the use of "reach" forklift trucks because rising warehousing costs dictated optimum use of space in both new buildings and additions.
Reach trucks, warehousemen learned, could work in much narrower aisles than conventional counterbalance trucks. Space use could be improved by up to 21 per cent with such equipment.
"Deep reach" trucks sometimes are described as double-deep because of their ability to place and retrieve pallets set one behind the other from a single aisle position. Recently added to the materials handling field is the "swing-reach" lift, or "turret" truck. The truck works on both sides of an aisle without turning and is used in conjunction with routine pallet storage.
Use of the "swing-reach" forklift trucks is consistently doub1ing or even tripling the national averages for conventional fork truck movements per hour, some industrialists report.
Hundreds of deep reach and swing reach trucks are seen in hundreds more warehouses today, compared to five years ago.
The deep reach concept features the use of racks two pallets deep - with one pallet stored behind the other so both from the same aisle position. As the first is removed, the second pallet becomes available.
Basically, the truck is a normal reach forklift truck tractor unit fitted with a different telescopic mast and each mechanism geared to picking up and depositing two pallets deep into the racking.
Space use is improved by one-third over the traditional reach truck which moves in for only one pallet off the rack. The approach, in a warehouse, could eliminate two aisles out of every five required in normal rack storage. Twelve racks can be put in somewhat less space than that which is normally required for 10.
Some warehouse veterans say swing reach telescopic forklifts are the most productive fork truck innovation ever. Such equipment, they say, works in guided aisles, can travel at high speed and lift while traveling. Added performance advantages are semi-automatic horizontal positioning and completely automatic vertical stacking and placement.
In addition, swing reach installations are experiencing successful application of current wire guidance technology. Thus, fantastic gains are likely, with direct vehicle-computer communication becoming feasible. Inventories would be reduced as movement of swing reach trucks is optimized.

Truck Extended Warranty Programs
Do you need an extended warranty for your truck or are you thinking about buying a new or used truck anytime soon? I do not want to scare you, but there are a large number of options available when it comes to truck warranties. When you buy a new or used truck, the dealer or salesman is going to try and sell you an extended warranty. Before you step foot into the dealership, you should know exactly what type of truck warranty you want and what you should expect to pay.
One thing to keep in mind is that an extended truck warranty is not going to cover everything that could happen to it or go wrong with your truck. You need to know what types of things can be covered by warranty. If you do not know what you need or want, there are a few basics that you will want to have in a truck warranty plan.
One feature to look for is roadside assistance. This will help you out any time your truck breaks down, has a flat tire or you lock yourself out of the truck. The warranty company will send out a repair person, towing service or locksmith to help you out and you should not have to pay any out of pocket expense for it. You should look for roadside assistance programs that have toll-free customer support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Anything less than that is unacceptable.
Another feature to look for is bumper-to-bumper coverage. With bumper-to-bumper coverage, any component that breaks or fails to work property should be repaired or replaced at the warranty company's expense. This will not cover routine, wear-and-tear things like oil changes, tire replacement and so on and it will not cover damages from automobile accidents (that's what your insurance is for).
Do your homework before purchasing a truck warranty and you will be happy with the results and you will be confident that you are not overpaying for the services. Use the Internet to research different companies and get quotes from several before you step foot into the truck dealership. Then when the dealer tries to push their warranty coverage on you, you will know if it's a good deal or not. If it's not, don't be afraid to use an alternative service (like one of the ones you got quotes from online). You do not have to purchase a warranty from the dealership. You have options. It's your choice.

Mack Trucks History
"MACK TRUCKS" are one of the best subsidiary of AB Volvo as they are very efficient and enduring, as "BULLDOGS" are very powerful amongst its breed so is "MACK TRUCKS" amongst all leading brands.
They are the best in building heavy-duty trucks capable of enduring a punishing terrain and the vagaries of nature. Mack Trucks is one of the world's leading truck-manufacturing companies. We have our headquarters Florida,USA and branches across USA. This company is a top producer in the vocational, on-road-vehicle market. It is also the most popular manufacturer of heavy-duty off-road trucks in America.
The journey of Mack Trucks began in 1893 when the Mack brothers, Jack and Augustus, bought over Fallesen & Berry factory. Soon, the Macks started experimenting with various steam and electric motor cars. Inspired by the inventions taking place all around him, Jack envisioned the building of heavy-duty trucks and thus began an eventful journey. The first product from the house of Macks was a bus, which was used by sightseeing concessionaire Harris and McGuire, for eight years before it was converted into a truck.
In the early 1900s, they became famous as ever-reliable trucks that could easily endure rugged terrains. Soon enough, Mack Truck Inc. were the first truck manufacturers to introduce a constant mesh feature that protected gears from being damaged or stripped by inexperienced drivers.
In 1919, Manhattan Trucks was re-christened as ‘Mack’. Later, in 1922, it adopted bulldog as its corporate logo. As to how a bulldog was chosen as, a symbol of Mack Truck Inc. is an interesting story in itself. Lore at Mack Truck Inc. say that during the First World War, the British government had chosen the sturdy Mack trucks for transporting important war supplies and food requirements to the soldiers on the front. These Mack trucks, with their blunt-nosed hood, resembled a bulldog. Besides, they were proving as tenacious as bulldogs. These qualities reminded the British soldiers of their official mascot the ‘British Bulldog’. Now, Mack Truck Inc. viewed this as a matter of pride and hence they adopted the bulldog as a corporate symbol to represent all the future generation of Mack trucks.
Since then, Mack have undertaken important missions of national and international importance. For instance, they played an important role in the trans-continental convoy conducted by the US Army, which highlighted the need for a national highway system. Similarly, Mack Truck Inc. played a major role in the building of the Boulder dam. It also played an important role in the Second World War. They found themselves adorning the role of prime movers, personnel carriers, wrecker trucks, tank transporters, and more.
Thus, Mack Trucks has played an important role in the American history and are now serving the needs of a modernized world by providing various upliftments in the working and manufacture of transportation.

Cranes are commonly used in the construction of towers and industry, and in manufacturing heavy equipments. Cranes ranges from small site crane to big cranes and deck cranes that lift heavy equipments. Basically, they are temporary structures in construction. They are either fixed on the ground or hoarded on a purpose-built vehicle. Cranes come in different types such as jib, gantry, ship and deck, bridge or overhead, boom, tower, and mobile or truck.
Before operating the crane, operators should carefully read and understand the operation manual from the crane manufacturer. Further, they must always note any instructions given by a reliable instructor or operator. It is also crucial for the crane operator to understand the consequences of careless operation of cranes. They must be instructed of the proper use, prohibition and the safety rules and regulation during the operation.
It is always the responsibility of the owner to make their personnel aware of all federal rules and codes so as to preclude violations along with their penalties. Employers must also make certain that their operators are properly trained and are equipped with the know-how. To be safe in the operation of crane, it requires skill and exercise of great care and ideal foresight, alertness and concentration. Also strict adherence to proven safety rules and practices is necessary.
The personnel who handle the operation of cranes in an area must utilize hand signals, if necessary, as their means of communication. Here are the most commonly used hand signals during crane lifting operation:
1. HOIST. Raise the forearm vertically and extend the right arm straight out with forefinger pointing up. Then, move hand in small horizontal circle.
2. LOWER. Forefinger pointing down and extend right arm downward then move hand in small horizontal circle.
3. STOP. Extend right arm down with wrist bent, palm down and open.
4 SWING. Right arm away from body, point with finger in direction of swing of boom.
5. RAISE BOOM. Fingers closed and thumb pointing upward while extending the right arm straight out.
6. LOWER BOOM. Fingers closed and thumb pointing downward while extending the right arm straight out.
7. BRIDGE TRAVEL. Extend the right arm forward, hand open and slightly raised and make pushing motion in direction of travel.
8. TROLLEY TRAVEL. Thumb pointing in direction of motion with palm up and fingers closed, jerk hand horizontally.
9. EMERGENCY STOP. Extend right arm, palm down and move hand rapidly left and right.
10. MULTIPLE TROLLEYS. For block marked 1. hold up one finger, and two fingers for block marked 2. Regular signals come next.
11. RAISE BOOM and LOWER LOAD. Right arm extended and thumb pointing up. Flex fingers in and out as long as load movement is needed.
12. LOWER BOOM and RAISE LOAD. Right arm extended and thumb pointing down. Flex fingers pointing in and out as long as load movement is needed.
13. DOG EVERYTHING. Hold hands in front of the body.
14. MOVE SLOWLY. One hand gives any motion signal while the other hand motionless in front of hand giving the motion signal.
15. MAGNET IS DISCONNECTED. Spread both hands.
When using these hand signals be sure that you and the crane operator are familiar with these signals. A wrong signal could cause a serious injury or worst - death.
Always stay alert when you are working in construction near any crane. If possible, avoid working under a moving load and stay clear of the counter balance. Always use your safety devices and helmet to avoid injuries. Safety is always the top priority of all workers and the crane operator.

Bio-diesel And Semi Trucks
Everything old is new again; or so the saying goes. If you’ve got tweens or teens running around the house, then their lava lamps and tie-die shirts are probably proving this saying true.
And so it goes for biodiesel fuel. Touted for its “green appeal”, and soaring onto the front pages of the world’s newspapers based upon promises of a cheaper fuel that will also help break America’s dependence on foreign oil, the concept of burning biodiesel for semi trucks is as new as, well, 1897. That was the year that Rudolf Diesel (1858-1913) perfected the Diesel engine that we all know and love so well.
Most of the nation’s semi trucks are fueled by Diesel fuel. And while that petroleum-based product may bear Diesel’s name, it definitely wasn’t the fuel of choice for him. In fact, Rudolph Diesel had some very futuristic ideas for his engine and the fuel that would drive it.
Rudolf Diesel had peanut oil in mind as the fuel that would make his engines roar and ultimately launch the semi truck into its rightful place in history. And he understood the economic impact of biofuel even way back then, as evidenced by his own words:
"The diesel engine can be fed with vegetable oils and would help considerably in the development of agriculture of the countries which use it."
Using what must have been a crystal ball tuned into 21st Century economic and politics, world, Herr Diesel went on to say:
“The use of vegetable oils for engine fuels may seem insignificant today. But such oils may become in course of time as important as petroleum and the coal tar products of the present time."
How right he was. All of a sudden the semi truck industry is taking one gigantic leap back to 1897 in an effort to finally match fuel reality with the visions of Rudolf Diesel and his peanut oil engine. Today there are multiple biofuel options that are all vying for acceptance by the semi truck industry.
Poultry fats and soybean oils, sent through a chemical process called transesterification, come out the other side as biodiesel.
Ethanol, a very clean fuel, is being successfully distilled from corn and wood products. Other raw materials are being tested as well.
The Diesel engine is so fuel-forgiving, that it can power semi trucks using any number of alternative r fuels including hydrogen, natural gas, propane or even gasses extracted from landfills.
As the price of fuel continues to soar, how long will it be until your semi truck’s exhaust fumes start smelling like Mom’s fried chicken dinners?

Windshield Repair And Replacement Is A Serious Business
Today's automotive windshields are not simple composed of glass as the name might suggest. Modern windshields are made from laminated safety glass that include two layers of glass sandwiched around a layer of PVB (polyvinyl butyrate). This is for safety reasons. During a crash or other occasion when the windshield is damaged, sharp pieces of glass will tend to stick to the PVB layer. This decreases the potential danger from flying glass, to passengers in the cabin of the vehicle. The PVB layer in laminated glass also serves to protect passengers and keep them inside the vehicle during collisions by exerting a cushioning effect.
Heat strengthened, alson known as tempered, glass is considered to be a form of safety glass as well. This type of glass is commonly used in vehicle side and back windows as opposed to windshields. Tempered glass crumbles into rounded glass pebbles which are relatively harmless, when broken.
Tempered glass cannot be repaired with some common windshield repair tool, but laminated safety glass can. This is why it is very common to see windshield repair services, but nobody typically offers to repair side or rear windows in the same fashion.
Modern windshields are no longer simple panes of properly-fitting glass. They are now complex, engineered glass systems with such elements as: heating mechanisms to melt ice; coatings to repel harmful ultra-violet radiation from the sun; shade bands to help the driver fight glare; high performance radio and telephone antennas; satellite uplinks; heads-up holographic instrument displays; and sensors to activate windshield wipers or close convertible tops. Because of dramatically increased performance expectations, the cost of the modern windshield has increased quite a bit as a result.
With windshields costing more than ever, it only makes sense to repair them, in incidences of damage, rather than replace them. There are many companies offering such a service, but NOVUS windshield repair is one worth investigating further. NOVUS is the dominant automotive franchisor in the United States, and NOVUS actually invented windshield repair, back in 1972 (and has repaired over 20 million windshields since then), and started franchising windshield repair in 1985. NOVUS has also made windshield and auto glass replacement service available since 1995.
Windshield repair is achieved by injecting a specially formulated resin into the damaged area. The resin is cured and polished, restoring structural strength and clarity to the auto glass. Most insurance companies will waive the deductible and pay the whole cost of a NOVUS repair. NOVUS can repair about 70% of the windshields it inspects. A general rule is if the damaged surface area on your windshield can be covered by a credit card, the odds are very good that it can be repaired. If you want more clarification or confirmation of this, call 1-800-77-NOVUS and your windshield will be examined by a skilled NOVUS technician at no charge to you. Once your windshield is repaired, the damage should be barely noticeable (no bigger than a sharp pencil point mark).
NOVUS guarantees their work. They guarantee that a NOVUS windshield repair will restore strength and clarity to the glass; will stop the spread of further damage, and will pass vehicle inspection in all states for as long as the customer owns their vehicle, or NOVUS will refund the cost of the repair. NOVUS repairs are also environmentally friendly and will extend the useful life of the glass, and will save you money over windshield replacement.

What Can You Do To Prevent Truck Theft
Every year, hundreds of air brake lock systems and other security measures are rendered useless and proven ineffective by thieves. In 2005 for example, the Federal Bureau of Investigation estimated that around $12 to $20 billion worth of cargo and equipment are stolen every year in the country.
And with expensive goods (electronics, cards, etc.) being transported on the road everyday and trucks becoming increasingly pricier, thieves that target trucks and tractors are not bound to slow down anytime soon. The only solution is to take preventive measures to protect your investment and cargo. Here are some basic tips you can follow to ensure you won’t fall prey to the many truck thieves that lurk around the parking lot:
Never leave your key inside the ignition. You might be in dire need to use the bathroom, but believe me when I tell you that the few seconds it will take to remove the key and put it in your pocket is worth the discomfort.
Take extra precautions before you travel by finding out which places along your route have high crime rates. Avoid these areas if you can, but if passing through them is an absolute imperative, then just be doubly careful than you would normally be.
Take alternative routes once in a while. This prevents thieves from being able to map out your routine and plan a robbery attack against you.
When stopping for a meal, park your truck in a spot visible and accessible from where you will be sitting. It’s also best if you choose where you take your breaks and avoid stopping in restaurants or stations with a questionable reputation.
Don’t leave a running tractor unattended. Doing this is like giving crooks an open invitation to rob you and drive away with your vehicle.
Make it harder for thieves to steal your truck by putting protective bars on the passenger side window, the side that, according to reports, most thieves enter the vehicle from.
Installing a vehicle protection device is one of the most effective way of preventing truck theft --just make sure your buy a reliable one. One of the most affordable and effective car protection devices today is the air lock security system. The security device prevents theft by blocking an air line from the air brakes. This means unless the truck driver deactivates the system, the vehicle will not move and your investment and cargo will remains safe.
Yes, you may have installed tracking device in your truck to let you know where it is at all times and you may fully trust the policemen in your town/city, but remember that an ounce of prevention is always better that a pound of cure. Take these safety precautions and keep your truck (and investment) safe.

Truck Driver Job Is Highly Profitable
Unknown to many Americans, the nation relies greatly on the commercial trucking industry for our economy to run. With very little exceptions, almost all products we have were transferred on a truck at some point. A lot of goods that are made from several ingredients were hauled on a truck a couple of times before becoming an end product. Trucks are the evident proof of the U.S. economy at work.
The trucking industry is rapidly growing too. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' web site, the trucking industry is strong and expanding, expecting a 22% growth in jobs between 2000 and 2010. The government estimates that cargo volume will increase by 50 percent in the next 20 years.
So what does all this mean? The truck industry is growing, and they need more truck drivers to keep up with the demand. Considering that our industry relies on most products to be shipped through trucks, it makes sense that as our economy grows this industry will grow as well.
Becoming a truck driver is an honorable job, supplying our nation with the goods necessary for daily living. Plus it is a great way to become familiar with the area around you or to explore a region of the U.S., such as the prairies of the Midwest.
Plus, a truck driving career is highly profitable. With a shortage of drivers, some companies offer signing bonuses and other incentives. Many companies offer pay advances quickly after completing CDL training and working for a short time. Plus there are pay increases for good drivers. Or if you work as a trucking team or as a couple, many trucking companies offer extra pay because you can deliver products faster than a single person.
Overall, the trucking industry can be an exciting new job. Truck driving jobs are available in many areas, and you can usually choose your preferred area and hours of work. Truck driving may offer the right route for your future.

Auto Transport Insurance Is Important
Many people require the auto transport service but are not aware of the importance that auto transport carries. Most reliable car and auto transport companies carry the necessary insurance to cover any damage, which may occurs to the vehicles while shipping. In vast majority of cases, vehicles arrive at their destination in perfect condition; however, as with any kind of insurance, there could be lots of caveats. Before you go on with automobile to a moving company, check out the following advice on insurance and the vehicle shipping process.
Keep the following in mind:
Before you resolve on which auto shipping company to use, ask the shipping companies you are paying attention in for their insurance certificate. They're all necessary by law to have one. Do not be frightened to ask questions about their policies either. Will your car be enclosed for any damage, which happens during shipping? Or are only some parts of the car (i.e. the body) covered? Would you be obligatory to pay a deductible?
Make certain to get any promises or declarations from the auto transport company well in writing.
It is as well possible that your auto insurance would as well cover the vehicle. Call your auto shipping company or broker check into certain the specifics. Is the insurance coverage the same while the automobile is being shipped? Do you have to give the company with any more notification?
When you drop your car off at the car shipping company, a transport truck driver or company agent would further inspect the vehicle before loading it in order to note any there is an already existing damage. Make sure you are there during the examination. It can not hurt to take a few snapshots of your car before go either, as proof, in case something happens.
If any damage has been done to your vehicle during the shipping process, note it on the bill of lading, get the driver to sign it and then get in touch with the auto shipping company directly for reimbursement.
It might be a lot to procedure, but there's no alternate for making sure your auto transport insurance is set up right.

ICC Authority? What's That?
All transportation companies need an operating authority issued by the former Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) which is now maintained by the Department of Transportation (DOT). You as a trucker also need this operating authority. For commercial trucking and commercial truckers it is an unavoidable permit or authority. When you carry commodities over different state lines, you need this ICC authority along with truck Insurance and Cargo Insurance. While getting the ICC authority check with your home state rules and regulations. Your home state may have some regulation regarding loading and unloading of the items. For truckers an ICC authority means you have a permit to carry different items and goods within state and interstate.
Now instead of the ICC, ICC authority applications are handled by two agencies under the USDOT. To get ICC authority, you do not need any experience; you just need to apply for it. ICC authority decides which companies are permitted as truckers/carriers. It also decides the service that these companies will offer and the charges that they can take from the customers.
ICC authority means Operating authority. ICC refers to Interstate Commerce Commission. ICC authority now means federal operating authority that looks after the rules governing transport companies for hire across the different state lines.
ICC authority is a term used to mean a legal permission or a business license. This is granted by a federal or state transportation governing agency. This permit or license is needed by the for hire transportation agency or the truckers.
According to the law, if you are a trucker, you should have a ICC operating authority. If you are operating without it, then you are really taking a big risk.
It is better not to operate till you get the authority. When you, as a trucker, operate within a specific commercial zone then you can operate without such authority but if you plan on going beyond this zone then make sure that you have the authority to.
